Chronic stress occurs when we feel that the demands of a situation are greater than our resources to deal with it.

Anxiety is a survival response that has gone ‘off track’ so that it hinders rather than helps – like the car alarm that is triggered when a cat jumps on the bonnet.

  A phobia is an irrational fear, but no matter how many times you tell yourself that is so, you cannot change it.  

Stress

Most people describe themselves as feeling stressed sometimes. For short periods stress is helpful: it’s a natural response that motivates us, and it’s crucial in dangerous situations.

Frequent or severe stress however, can seriously impact on your quality of life.

Stress doesn’t affect everyone in the same way, you may experience physical symptoms, it can impact your mental health, or change how you behave.

At Sheffield Hypnotherapy Works the first thing I will do is help you identify the cause of your stress.

Then using a combination of Hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) tailored to your specific needs I will help you to naturally reduce your stress response levels.

The antidote to excessive stress is relaxation, so the first thing you will learn is effective breathing and calming relaxation methods that can be used anywhere.

I will ensure you have a full understanding of why you are feeling the way you do, so you can accept it and begin to make positive changes.
You will learn ways to cope with and manage challenging situations for example: problem-solving strategies, time management skills and assertiveness.

The hypnotherapy you experience during our sessions will give you 30 minutes or so of complete relaxation AND ensure that everything learned is embedded into your subconscious. This will enable you to utilise new skills easily and effectively, leading you towards a calmer and healthier outlook from our first session.

Anxiety

Anxiety can affect anyone at any time in their lives. No-one is immune to it, the important thing to know is that you are not alone!

Feeling afraid is very much a part of life. It is a survival instinct that happens when danger is anticipated, the ‘fight or flight’ response that is there to protect us. 

Sometimes that instinct goes into overdrive and triggers the ‘fight or flight’ response when there is no real danger, resulting in feelings of anxiety.  

This can affect everyday life, spiralling out of control as the fear of the fear becomes the norm. 

Anxiety can cause a variety of symptoms.  It may affect you physically, mentally and in the way you behave, all related to the survival instinct.

You may notice a faster heartbeat, breathlessness, chest pains, dizziness, and nausea.

You may feel tense, constantly tap your feet and lose your patience easily.

You may have difficulty concentrating, be nervous about new things or no longer enjoy the things you used to.

Hypnotherapy can be used to ease the physical reactions, to calm your mind and control your behaviour so you can be the master of your life again. 

The very first thing we will do in our session together at Sheffield Hypnotherapy Works is to ensure you understand why you are reacting in the way you do. 

When you know how anxiety works; what it needs to maintain it, then you can gain power over it and learn how to control it.

Phobias

Phobias are the most common type of anxiety disorder.  A phobia can be defined as: “an extreme or irrational fear of, or aversion to an object, place, situation, feeling or animal”. 
Initially people may try to live with their phobia, avoiding the object or situation they are afraid of. This is easier for some than others, but can result in a worsening fear, as continual avoidance of it will reinforce its validity.
Hypnotherapy is a widely used and successful treatment for phobias, even long-standing ones can be helped.

At Sheffield Hypnotherapy Works, the first thing I will do is take a detailed history of your phobia. This will help me fully understand how the fear is affecting you, and what your response to it is – both physically and emotionally.

I can then tailor treatment to your specific needs – this will involve a combination of hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) techniques to eliminate the phobia.

During hypnotherapy I will help you to access the unconscious programming that prompted your fear response and then change it so that the fear instinct is no longer triggered when you are faced with the situation or object.

I will teach you easy but powerful and effective techniques that can be used anywhere to ensure your confidence and control in any previously fearful situation.

Sessions are charged at an hourly rate of £70.
